Beyond Biodiversity: Eliciting Diverse Values of Urban Green Spaces in Flanders

چکیده
Nature-based solutions are claimed to offer an effective approach tackle societal challenges and promote biodiversity. While research has mainly focused on biodiversity material ecosystem services, non-material contributions relational values of urban green spaces remain underexplored. How balance the benefits nature, well-being, in their design performance evaluation remains unclear. To elicit expressed public communication regarding nature projects Flanders, three online repositories that feature diverse nature-based region were chosen. Using coding quantitative content analysis standardized descriptions from these repositories, this study found most abundant (55%), followed by instrumental (30%) intrinsic (15%), consistently so over socio-demographic physical contexts. It was also discovered larger have a higher level multifunctionality, which is calculated based variety value dimensions expressed, participation—although considered key—rarely reports inclusivity. The findings suggest greater emphasis placed associated with nature. A broader scope for design, management, tailored local context recommended.

Urban expansion as a driver of biodiversity loss: Integrating biodiversity in urban planning in African context
Africa has high biodiversity and is rapidly urbanizing. However, there is limited understanding of how urban expansion in Africa is likely to affect its habitats and biodiversity. Little urban ecological research has been done in Africa. This study needs to think ahead as Africa move into the “urban age” it is critical to inform the public on the importance of urban environment...

The compact city is becoming a prevailing paradigm in the world to control urban sprawl and achieve a pattern of sustainable urban development. However, discussions of the area's overcrowded neighborhoods, its health problems, and the destruction of its green areas have inspired self-examination with respect to the compact city paradigm. High population density attracts even more residents and ...
متن کاملGreen Links and Urban Biodiversity—an Experiment in Connectivity
Many cities are located on estuaries, floodplains or other biologically productive and unique habitats. Natural ecosystems are fragmented in urban areas and are increasingly isolated as cities densify to accommodate population growth. Greenways are one approach to maintain natural connections, thereby preserving larger breeding populations of plants and animals and more robust food webs. The Gr...
متن کاملAn investigation of Urban Green Spaces and Health Benefits considering the Influence of Specific Features of Green Spaces
Urban green spaces provide a context where constant association with these spaces can result in reducing the incidence or diminishing the effect of many diseases. Different studies assessed the relationship between using urban green spaces and health benefits considering influential quantitative aspects. This research tries to look differently at this issue by connecting the urban green spaces ...
